National Geographic

The paintings show Christian Mieves’s interest in the depiction of human figures in their surrounding spaces A large part of  his practice consists in life painting in front of the object in the specific place. In the exhibition some paintings are inspired by images from the National Geographic magazine from the 1950 and 60s. The broadening of the working process from depicting the object in the close environment to unknown places taken from the magazine reflects the interest how the social and cultural setting the notion of the exotic becomes more important.
